If you will be home all weekend without anything to do, there have been a number of great releases that can certainly fill your time. CCCLX has released Wet for everyone to give a try. I have seen the trailers for this game but I don’t know much about it but it looks decent. With dot posting NHL 2k10 this just leaves us waiting for Halo and NFS:Shift to be released. James Cameron has delivered some movies of monstrous proportions. Titanic, Aliens and The Terminator have all come to us courtesy of the Canadian filmmaker. This December sees the release of the long-awaited Avatar, a movie about an alien moon called Pandora and the battle over its riches. Cameron’s last movie, Titanic, set all sorts of box office records. That puts the expectations for Avatar at near impossible levels and naturally paves the way for a videogame adaptation. It’s a game that I had high hopes for and though it does its best to play to the movie’s strengths — featuring a lush jungle world and 3D visuals – Avatar: The Game ultimately suffers from unpolished and thin gameplay elements.

Avatar: The Game takes place on the same moon as its movie counterpart but rather than retelling Cameron’s tale, it offers a prequel story and an introduction to Pandora’s past. The reason for all of the commotion? Pandora is the only known place to harvest unobtanium, a mineral worth whatever it takes to get it. Unfortunately, Pandora has a toxic atmosphere and is the home to some hostile locals, including giant carnivorous plants and the Na’vi, an alien race that stands roughly 10 feet tall. The RDA, a military for hire, has countered with Avatars, a genetic hybrid between humans and Na’vi. And so the war begins in earnest.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, the upcoming, realistic battlefield first-person shooter. As the leader of a four-man fire team, it’s up to you to successfully direct your men to their objectives and accomplish them with minimal injuries to your troops. Along with the standard campaign, Dragon Rising will also feature a multiplayer component to expand the warfare to friends or friendly competition. At a recent event, I got a chance to check out both the campaign and multiplayer, and tested the controls as both a squad member and a team leader.

For those of you who don’t know about Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, the game takes place in the near future where China has invaded a small island called Skira off the coast of its mainland for its recently discovered oil. China’s justification for its actions is that the land originally belonged to the country from the 1400s, when it was originally discovered by Chinese explorers. However, Russia has controlled Skira since the end of World War II, leading to regionalized tensions that could erupt in full scale war as both countries amass their armies along their mutual border. The US deploys troops to Skira in hopes of averting this conflict, putting you squarely up against the People’s Liberation Army. While you can play the game by yourself, it’s possible to take three additional friends and deploy into a new campaign as a squad, each player taking on the role of one of the members of the fire team.

RANT has released the PAL version of NBA Live 10. Previous Live games were horrible but it looks like EA has done some major improvements. This game has been well received so far with IGN even scoring it a 8.2. Enjoy!
